Rachid Mohamed Rachid is a prominent business leader and the former Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment for Egypt. He is the founder of Swiss-based Alsara Investment Group, a holding company that strategically invests in companies in creative industries in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, with a focus on luxury, wellness, design, innovation and technology. Alsara is also a global financial investor in private and public markets with a focus on consumer businesses and frequently partners alongside other established global investors. Alsara’s subsidiary Bidayat invests in local Mediterranean companies providing an encouraging ecosystem and nurturing environment to help creative entrepreneurs grow their brands and learn how to compete internationally. In addition to founding Alsara Rachid is currently Chairman of Valentino and Chairman of Balmain; two of the leading luxury fashion companies in the world. He is the CEO of Mayhoola for Investment and a Board Member of the Katara Hospitality Group. Earlier in his career Rachid was Chairman of Rachid Mashreq Investment Group after which he became President of Unilever North Africa, Middle East, Turkey and a Member of the Board of Directors. From 2004 to 2011 Rachid served as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment of Egypt playing an internationally recognized leadership role in the liberalization of the country’s economy. Educated at University of Alexandria and Harvard Business School, he is also the recipient of the Cavaliere di Gran Crose, Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana, the highest Order of Merit in Italy.
